Nicolas Jaar, een twintigjarige veelbelovende artiest uit New York, levert bij deze zijn eerste kunstwerk: debuutalbum Space Is Only Noise. Een beetje vreemd -zeker niet commercieel- maar wel lekker. Zijn stijl van deep house en ambient is een niet eerder gehoorde, ook wel omschreven als organic electronic vanwege de natuurgeluiden, spelende kinderen en diepe ritmes. Jaar werd geïnspireerd door Chili, waar hij zijn kinderjaren doorbracht, en in het bijzonder door zijn Chileense technoheld Ricardo Villalobos. Dat hij muzikaal is blijkt wel; zijn ritmische melancholie is een pure vooruitgang voor het dancegenre. Vooral de piano, de saxofoon en de Frans- en Engelstalige zang maken het album compleet tot een echt volwassen luisteralbum, minder geschikt voor dj’s.

The Crookes

Ze waren de belofte van Eurosonic en wisten deze waar te maken. The Crookes wordt reeds in één adem genoemd met bands variërend van Vampire Weekend, Belle and Sebastian en the Smiths. De indieband uit Sheffield is vernoemd naar de buitenwijk Crookes en bestaat sinds 2008. De bandleden worden betiteld als de koningen der romantiek –en deze liefde is dan ook een belangrijk ingrediënt voor de Engelse bandjes van nu. Toch is het niet het zoveelste britpop bandje; hun mix van ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll en ‘80s college pop zorgt voor een swingend, fris en vrolijk geheel. Just Like Dreamers of I Remember Moonlight zou na het al eerder uitgebrachte succesnummer Backstreet Lovers best een fijne voorjaarshit kunnen worden.

What a great night last Friday at 5 days off! The line-up was perfect with LCDMF, Crystal Fighters, Goose, The Benelux and The Shoes. Electro as it should be; loud, powerful and just fantastic actually.

What a party! Finally, Jesus stood up, the beat became louder and we were surrounded by huge CF-friends who knew the lyrics sometimes even better than the stoned singer. The clothes - 3 jackets - were a bit exaggerated, but yes, that's part of the live experience, so I could definitely recommend Crystal Fighters for all summer festivals.

Goose

But actually with Goose the real die-hard rave party began. With first Synrise and Can't Stop Me Now, both from the latest album, everybody jumped around like idiots. Later on with some oldies as Black Gloves, Bring It On and Low Mode. Great vibe, great electro, great venue.
